Awoken at 5:45 by the plangent shriek of birds in the tree near my window, I drew the blinds and saw pink. I was dreaming about, babies, houses, homes, the pleading eyes of an infatuated man and gardens. A text announced a friend in Florida going into labor.

Half-dressed but well rested I drove to East Hall to view the incipient day. From the steps I watched the yellow ball rise and made small talk with two pretty security guards coming off the night shift, two clumsy drunk dudes coming from a party, and two captivated vegan students walking their dog.

I wore my sweater for the first time this fall...as the sun set and I watched angry horses kick cowboys off their backs while fat crowds cheered. My eyes water easily sometimes, and did this night, for this horse.

Walk away from the rodeo to a happier part of the fair...babies, monkeys, children with their animals and sometimes ... rock stars.

This was my long-term project I did in Jackson about a family living with many health issues and below the poverty line. I spent a lot of time with them and got some images that I am really proud of. I made it into an audio slide show -- the audio was recorded properly but sounds a little rough on the web for some reason.
